The Mersey Band is grateful to the province of Nova Scotia ( Cultural Youth Activities Program) for a grant to subsidize our youth project including summer band camp and lessons. Scholarships and bursaries are available. There are plans to form a youth ensemble group.
You can take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument!
You’ve never played before? No problem. The camp has an absolute beginner level! Instruments and music are provided by the band including saxophones, clarinets, flutes, trombones, euphoniums and drums. Parents, what a wonderful way to have your child try something new without a huge cash outlay!
You would like to improve your skills? We can help! We have intermediate and advanced levels! You will learn more difficult techniques and be introduced to different styles of music.
You played a little some time ago and think
you might like to try again? Welcome! We can get you back into the
swing of things!
The summer Band camp is geared for ages 10 and up. Adults are most welcome. Generally there is a group of 3-5 adults who attend band camp.
The camp runs from 9:00 am until 2:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Friday afternoon band members hold a concert for relatives and friends.
Our Music director Rod MacGillivray, who also serves as the band's training officer and Marlene Blezy, who has been a band teacher with the New Germany Rural High School Music program for many years, are confirmed band camp instructors.

The fee is $80 for the week with a $40 sibling discount. $10 Early bird discount if you register before June 26. |

Lessons
Lessons for students learning to play an instrument are subsidized. There are individual lessons for students learning to play an instrument. Parents pay a small fee which helps to pay for the instructor. When students have reached a level of proficiency, they are administered an admission test by two band members to determine if they are ready to become members of the Mersey Band. There are plans for a youth ensemble group.
